another great day of san francisco sports, with the 9ers hosting the seahawks, going to beat them. hosting the cardinals in st. louis and winning game four. today we can celebrate the bid for the next super bowl in san francisco and bay area. as has been mentioned the super bowl is a world class event and deserves a world class city and world class region to host it. as a kid who grew up here in san francisco and in the fall to trek every sunday to candlestick park to watch the 49ers play, now this is such an exciting time that we get to have the chance to host the event that we only got to watch on tv for the past few decades. what an incredible time for our city. even if the super bowl's played down the road in santa clara, for us, these are the san francisco 49ers. always have been, always will be. san francisco 49er fan also be so excited and come together as a region and city behind this. it will have enormous impacts, bringing the neighborhoods together from sunset to bay view. think about the thousands of jobs. hundreds of millions of economic activity for our city. more importantly

tragic event, all of us. it has touched everybody across this country. san francisco is no different. and i have shared that emotional experience with the supervisor and everybody here, in our law enforcement, and in our health department as well. the question for us, then, is what do we do about it? and not only can we share in this tragedy and signal our sympathies to the families as we've done, but we've got to do something more. and this is where i want to make sure i recognize all of the people that are in that effort of doing something about it, including the officials in san francisco. and some have been at this longer than others to try to do something about it, have reached limitations. yet again, i think this tragedy at sandy hook reminds us that we've got to keep trying and we've got to keep doing more about it. and, so, i want to first of all recognize that senator feinstein, in my conversations with her, and the tragedies she's experienced as mayor of san francisco as well as her attempts to ban assault weapons and had done so in the past, and that her federal assault le

. in 2003, i was asked to come to san francisco public utilities commission to take the meat on the program. i'm responsible for all the large capital projects for water, waste water, and power. it's about $12 billion of capital projects. we have a lot of projects. our water system improvement program, 80 products that span seven counties. we have a staff of about 400 city employees and about 500 consultants. puc is really embracing technology. we wanted to make sure we really had a system that would elevate all issues so we could address them in a timely manner. as you know, time is money. we have a construction management information system. it is a great tool to help us address construction and make it successful, as it is today. cmis is one of the first major tools we put in place. the next one is the san francisco online invoicing, where we are now working with the contractor and consultant to have them submit their invoices online. we are also working on electronic bidding systems. another way we can reduce the paperwork and all the other issues tied with the procurements. i live in s

with the fact there's, coming to san francisco events is smoke free and they'll know what to expect and also gives people who are smokers so that they are also empowered to take public health into their hands. i want to thank you very much, supervisor mar, you are a great non-smoking champion and i want to thank you for supporting this legislation. thank you this legislation. thank you very much (brief pause in captioning). because that community smokes twice as much as the general population. the research shows the reason we smoke so much more is because of homo phobia. 90 percent of people start smoking before they are 18 years and it is during the teen years when queers face the toughest times. because of the added pressure faced by lgbt teens and the limited options they face, many more of us become smokers. add priet and many other community affairs we breathe a lot of second hand smoke. it is highly ironic that an event that is meant to celebrate freedom from homo phobia. how appropriate it would be for pride to openly recognize the connection between homo phobia and smoking by

disaster on san francisco bay when this oil tanker sideswiped a tower of the bay bridge. the big question tonight how did it happen. good evening everyone i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. close call on the san francisco bay but was it human error or something else. officials are trying to determine how a tanker hit a tower on the san francisco bridge. the coast guard reports no oil spill resulted. we've learned the tanker had already been unloaded. and caltrans says there was no major damage to the bridge. it remained open to travel traffic. we have continuing coverage now from heather holmes. she's live at treasure island with what she's learned about the bar pilot guiding that tanker and the scrutiny he's now facing. >> reporter: he's been a bar pilot since 2005. prior to that he worked for several years on oil tankers for exxon. but today while guiding that vessel. the overseas raymar this experienced mainer sideswiped the tower of the bridge. look at the top left side of this picture. that is a piece of the bridge barrier stuck to the side of the ship's hull. >> about 30

was no slouch herself. milton could have went into a predictable role here in san francisco but instead he proved himself and school and the nonprofit thousands of miles away where his name had no currency. now milton and i disagreed about practically everything in politics but when he ran for the community college board i was proud of one of the non californians that contributed to his campaign and would have voted for him and probably the only contractor from my political party but i knew this because i knew milton wasn't going into service for himself but he realized he could make a difference to the community. and for all of milton's achievement and qualities family was always the most important thing. when susan's and my daughters came along he would crawl on the floor with them for hours and talked about how much he wanted to be a husband and father one day and that's why we were set r so happy when he met abbey and truly understood milton and became his rock. i will never forget the wedding in napa and abbey on the stage and raid yent in the dress and serenaded milton with "our

-involuntary commitments to san francisco psychiatric services through 5150 holds. we also deal with the significant amount of numbers of diversions, we have a policy with the door clinic with a number of our officers, where we see a person who is potentially at the crust of being a threat to themselves or others, there is an intervention that allows us to not allow that to go further or become a criminal issue or become a psychiatric hold issue and we divert the persons to the clinic. the important thing to know is that a significant number of our calls to service were relative to persons who do have a mental elth issue and who are in a state of crisis come from the medical practitioners themselves. we are talking about not... the identification of the person, but the identification of the behavior. behavior has gone from a person who is managing some mental illness to a person who is now a threat to potentially to themselves and or others. and when they came a threat to others, that is when the medical professionals call us. and it is that point, that we have to recognize, that words do not always work.
